Y2 – Grey Class
Welcome to Year 2! In our class the teacher is Miss Garner and the teaching assistant is Mr Bambridge.
We begin in Autumn Term by immersing ourselves in the World of Plants, Animals, and Insects to discover how they grow and where they can be found. Our topic is Smouldering London which will give us an insight into the impact of the Great Fire of London and other key historical dates.
In English we use a range of stories to practise our narrative writing and begin to cover the grammatical features of the Year 2 curriculum. We also develop our geographical understanding of maps and countries outside of the United Kingdom.
During the Spring Term, we have a historical focus as we look at some of the famous kings and queens of Great Britain in Mapping the Monarchy, as well as continuing to develop our map work.
In the Summer Term, we learn about physical geographical features, in particular the coastline and beaches as we move into Britain’s Great.
Throughout the year we will continue to develop our Maths skills, in particular securing written methods for the four operations and continue to learn about other areas of Maths including fractions. We love reading in Year 2 and encourage the children to read every day, with the expectation that their reading record is signed five times a week.
PE is on a Friday and we recommend that children bring their PE kit into school on a Monday and take it home on a Friday. Homework will be set on a Friday and will consist of a weekly Maths task and weekly spellings. The half termly Homework Menus will be sent out at the start of each half term with a selection of tasks for you to do at home with your child.
Our class is named after the fantastic author Mini Grey who has written lots of wonderful and well-known children’s stories such as ‘Traction Man’, ‘The Pea and the Princess’, ‘Biscuit Bear’ and many more!
